CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns are hiring former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel to the team's coaching staff in a consulting role, according to multiple reports.
ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter and reporter Field Yates reported on Friday afternoon that the Browns are bringing Vrabel on board as a coaching and personnel consultant.
The reported hire brings Vrabel back to the state where he started his football career both as a player and a coach. Born in Akron and a graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Vrabel was an All-American defensive end at Ohio State University. He was named Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year twice, in 1995 and 1996.
After retiring from his NFL playing career following the 2010 season, he began his coaching career as OSU's linebackers coach in 2011.
Vrabel left Ohio State to become the Houston Texans' linebackers coach in 2014 and worked his way up to defensive coordinator before being tapped to lead the Titans in 2018.
Vrabel coached the Titans to two consecutive AFC South titles in 2020 and 2021. He was fired by Tennessee in January after posting a 6-11 record in the 2023-24 season.
Over Vrabel's six seasons in charge of the Titans, he compiled a 54-45 record and went 2-3 in the postseason.
