WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Cleveland Browns' defensive end Myles Garrett received recognition on Friday for his work with the youth community in Northeast Ohio.
Garrett was named the Week 1 Community MVP by the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) on Friday.
The announcement comes after Garrett hosted his inaugural Back-to-School Kickoff in Northeast Ohio.
“It is an honor to be named the NFLPA Community MVP,” said Garrett. “From a very young age, my family taught me that helping other people is not just the nice thing to do; it’s the right thing to do.”
Garrett hosted a two-day event with the United Way of Greater Cleveland that provided hundreds of kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Ohio with free haircuts and back-to-school supplies.
As an ambassador for the United Way of Greater Cleveland, Garrett has hosted many events for the Northeast Ohio community.
Recently, Garrett was named the first-ever Community Science Ambassador for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
"I’m passionate about uplifting the next generation and I plan to positively impact as many lives as possible for as long as I can,” said Garrett.
The NFLPA will make a $10,000 contribution to Garrett's charity or foundation of choice. Later in the year, Garrett will also take part in a visit to a local school or children's hospital.
Garrett will now be eligible for this year's Alan Page Community Award.
