According to ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Cleveland is expected to leave Chubb on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP) for the start of the season.

This means Chubb would be ineligible to be active during the first four games of the season when the team plays the Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders.

The earliest game that fans could potentially see Chubb return in is on Oct. 6, when the Browns take on the Washington Commanders.

Chubb has not played for the Browns since Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Currently, Jerome Ford, Pierre Strong, D’Onta Foreman, Aidan Robbins and Jacob Saylors are the backs on Cleveland's roster.

Chubb has rushed for 6,511 yards and scored 48 touchdowns in his five-plus seasons with Cleveland.

The team restructured Chubb’s contract in April. He was entering his final year of a three-year, $36.6 million deal he signed in 2021. Chubb agreed to take a salary cut but can earn back money through incentives.
