Cleveland Browns meet with lawmakers to show plans for potential Brook Park stadium

The current lease for Cleveland Browns Stadium will expire in 2028.

CLEVELAND — While negotiations are still underway, the Cleveland Browns have reportedly shown off their plans for a possible stadium in Brook Park.

According to Nick Castele and Mark Naymik at our partner Signal Cleveland, Browns' representatives met with state lawmakers last Wednesday, April 24, to present their proposal for a new multipurpose stadium in Brook Park.

People familiar with the proposal told Signal Cleveland that the plans include a major entertainment and redevelopment of the area. Team officials met with a group of bipartisan lawmakers organized by Ohio Reps. Bride Rose Sweney and Tom Patton.

For the public wondering what these plans in Brook Park may look like, sources told Signal Cleveland that the team is expected to start circulating the plans more widely soon.

Drawings shown to lawmakers, according to Signal Cleveland, depicted a multipurpose stadium that appeared to be built deep into the ground with room for development around it.

Browns organizers reportedly sold the project as an "unprecedented economic development effort that includes a domed stadium and entertainment and lifestyle district that would be mostly privately funded – but would likely cost taxpayers significantly, too," according to Signal Cleveland.

Over a month ago, Cleveland Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam announced that the team is down to two options regarding its future stadium site: a $1 billion renovation to its existing downtown stadium or a domed stadium outside of the city at double the cost.

While attending the NFL Owners Meetings in Orlando, they noted that they have the option to purchase 176 acres of land in Brook Park, not far from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

The current lease for Cleveland Browns Stadium will expire in 2028.
