Colin Cowherd is no fan of Baker Mayfield. The Fox Sports Radio host made as much clear on Tuesday, when he took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the Cleveland Browns' No. 1 pick.
Retweeting an article by cleveland.com's Dan Labbe detailing Mayfield's struggles at Browns minicamp last week, Cowherd took a shot at the 6-foot-1 signal-caller's size.
"Marginal size and athleticism isn’t a NUMBER ONE pick," Cowherd, who hosts The Herd on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports Radio tweeted. "In any draft. In any sport."
Never one to hold his tongue, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner responded directly to Cowherd's post.
"Well it happened bud," Mayfield wrote back. "Have a nice day!"
As was the case leading up to the draft, Mayfield remains one of the more polarizing quarterback prospects in quite some time. Despite his lofty production and pinpoint accuracy, many doubters have come to question the former Oklahoma quarterback's pro potential, due in large part to his less than prototypical height.
At this point, it's far too early to make any sort of reasonable assessment on Mayfield's adjustment to the pros. With training camp ahead, the Browns appear far from ready to open up a competition between and Tyrod Taylor -- although they also aren't ruling one out either.
“That is yet to be determined," said offensive coordinator Todd Haley. “[Mayfield] has made very good progress, but any time that you are a young player coming into this league, especially a quarterback, it is going to take time."
Consider Cowherd skeptical.
