CLEVELAND — Editor's note: the video in the player above is from a previous story.
It's been more than four years since the Cleveland Browns fired Sashi Brown.
But after spending the past two years working for the NBA's Washington Wizards, the former Browns general manager is back in the NFL.
On Friday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Adam Schefter reported that Browns had resigned from his position as president of Monumental Basketball, which owns the Wizards and the WNBA's Washington Mystics. The 45-year-old Brown, however, won't be leaving the DMV area, as he has accepted a position in the Baltimore Ravens front office.
It's unclear what Brown's official title and responsibilities with the Ravens will be.
Brown's return to the AFC North is of note to Cleveland, as many members of the Browns' front office worked alongside him during his time as the team's top football executive from 2016-17. In particular, Cleveland hired Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta the same offseason that it promoted Brown as its vice president of football operations, while current Browns general manager Andrew Berry served as the team's vice president of player personnel under Brown.
Brown's tenure in Cleveland was a polarizing one, as the Browns embarked on a multi-year rebuild that helped result in a 1-15 record in 2016. Cleveland fired Brown following an 0-12 start to the 2017 campaign, in which the Browns ultimately became the second team in NFL history to amass an 0-16 season.
Earlier this week, Cleveland's head coach at the time, Hue Jackson, implied that he had been paid extra money to intentionally lose games during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The Browns have denied the allegations.
