BEREA, Ohio — The Browns have made a draft-day trade, but no, Baker Mayfield isn't involved.
Cornerback Troy Hill is headed to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2023. The 30-year-old Youngstown native spent five seasons in Hollywood before playing one year in Cleveland.
Hill began his NFL career in Cincinnati before moving on to LA in 2016. He emerged as a solid slot corner with 29 pass deflections and seven interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), earning him a four-year, $24 million contract with the Browns in 2021.
But in his lone season in Cleveland, Hill struggled with his health and performance. He missed five games due to issues with his neck, knee, and COVID-19 while managing just one pass deflection and zero picks, although he did have seven tackles for loss.
Hill's departure comes just one day after the Browns selected fellow corner Martin Emerson with their first pick in the 2022 draft, albeit not until the third round. Cleveland's current secondary also includes the recently extended Pro Bowler Denzel Ward, 2021 first-round pick Greg Newsome II, and 2019 second-round selection Greedy Williams.
