BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns continued to wheel and deal trades following Monday’s film session reviewing Sunday’s 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts and they continue building up an arsenal of future draft picks.
The Browns parted ways with second-year linebacker Genard Avery, sending the pass-rushing specialist to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for an undisclosed pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
That was the second deal made by the Browns in the last week, as general manager John Dorsey parted with another one of his selections when he sent offensive lineman Austin Corbett, the first pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, to the Los Angeles Rams for an undisclosed 2021 pick.
The Browns selected Avery out of the University of Memphis with the 150th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
In the 6-foot-1, 248-pound Avery, the Browns thought they were get a playmaking linebacker with a penchant for wreaking havoc behind the line of scrimmage.
During his four years with the Tigers, Avery registered 232 total tackles, including 170 solo stops and 62 assists, and 45.5 of those tackles went for lost yardage. Those 45.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage resulted in 216 lost yards for opponents.
Additionally, Avery forced four fumbles, two each over his last two collegiate seasons, recovered one turnover and defended seven passes. Avery returned two interceptions for defensive touchdowns during his junior season.

Avery registered at least five sacks in three of his four seasons at Memphis. After totaling five sacks as a freshman, Avery had only three in 2015. However, Avery collected five sacks as a junior and punctuated his senior year with 8.5 sacks for 66 lost yards.
Over his four-year collegiate career, the Grenada, Mississippi, native registered 21.5 sacks.
However, Avery was unable to find consistent success in the National Football league.
In two years with the Browns, Avery registered 41 total tackles, including 31 solo stops and 10 assists, with 4.5 sacks, all of which came during his rookie season in 2018.
Avery was active for just two of the Browns’ seven games this season.
