After both Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily took to Twitter on Wednesday night to claim they had just seen a UFO in Austin, Texas, many on social media joked that it was just a matter of time until Colin Cowherd used the post as ammunition to criticize the Cleveland Browns quarterback.
Life, of course, has a strange way of imitating art -- or in this case, social media -- with Cowherd, in fact, discussing Mayfield's tweet during Thursday's episode of his national radio show.
"The other big piece of news in the AFC North is last night on Twitter, Baker Mayfield said he saw a UFO," Cowherd said. "He went out with his beautiful wife, I'm sure they had some margaritas, Austin, Texas, is a fun town. And on Twitter, Baker Mayfield announced, 'I just saw a UFO diving down near Lake Travis.'
"To that, I would say I prefer of all the qualities of franchise quarterbacks, I want to know your arm, are you good pre-snap? Are you mobile? The ability to see UFOs in the offseason is nowhere near my not top 10 qualifications -- Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Tom Brady have never seen aliens. I would prefer my guys don't talk about it, but in fairness, Aaron Rodgers also admits he's seen a UFO and he did win a Super Bowl."
After reciting Mayfield's tweet verbatim, the Fox Sports radio host added: "Um, no. Nobody else witnessed this. But you've got the Steelers are bringing their quarterback back and the Browns' quarterback is coming back and just saw an alien. It will potentially skew my standings and predictions going forward."
Cowherd's comments, of course, are nothing new, as he's expressed skepticism toward Mayfield's ability to be a franchise quarterback dating back to the lead up to the 2018 NFL Draft. As recently as January, Cowherd took issue with Mayfield wearing a backwards hat during a mid-week press conference -- a fashion choice the Oklahoma product used to troll Cowherd after Cleveland beat the Steelers in the AFC Wild Card round.
Predictably, Cowherd was mocked for his continued bizarre obsession with Mayfield, including by NFL legend and certified "GOAT" Brady. The seven-time Super Bowl champion asked how Cowherd how he knows he's never seen aliens before, with Mayfield later chiming in that Brady has probably seen many "at your age."
Following the Browns' Wild Card win -- which marked Cleveland's first postseason victory since the 1994 season -- Cowherd was willing to give Mayfield credit. Apparently, however, all it took was one alleged UFO sighting in March for his skepticism to return.
