As the Cleveland Browns attempt to break the NFL's longest active postseason drought (17 years), they'll first be reminded of their past. In addition to Freddie Kitchens calling offensive plays for the New York Giants, former Browns quarterback Colt McCoy will start against his former team on Sunday Night Football, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
McCoy's start will mark his second of the season, as he also started in the Giants' 17-12 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13. New York's regular starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, was listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against Cleveland due to hamstring and ankle injuries.
Originally selected in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft, McCoy appeared in 24 games (21 starts) in his three seasons with the Browns. In that span, he 58.3 percent of his passes for 4,388 yards, 21 touchdowns and 20 interceptions, amassing a 6-15 record as a starter.
Calling plays for McCoy on Sunday will be Kitchens, who was fired by Cleveland after amassing an underwhelming 6-10 record in his only season as the team's head coach in 2019. Now serving as New York's tight ends coach, Kitchens will take over play-calling responsibilities after offensive coordinator Jason Garrett tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Laying claim to a 9-4 record, a Browns win on Sunday would go a long toward the team breaking its 17-season postseason drought. A loss, meanwhile, could provide costly, as fellow AFC playoff contenders Indianapolis, Tennessee, Baltimore and Miami each won on Sunday.
