BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns are going to get a boost to the secondary when they return to the practice field at team headquarters in Berea later this morning.
After missing two straight games because of a concussion, starting safety Damarious Randall has cleared the NFL Concussion Protocol and will be alongside his teammates in preparation for Sunday’s AFC North Division game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
“We have Damarious back,” Browns coach Freddie Kitchens said prior to Wednesday’s practice. “He’s cleared the protocol, but no other defensive back is expected back today. Maybe later in the week.”
Randall was one of four starters in the secondary to miss last week’s 20-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland on Sunday Night Football, but he is the only one who is set to return Wednesday, as cornerbacks Greedy Williams and Denzel Ward continue to work their ways back from hamstring injuries suffered within 10 minutes of each other during last Friday’s practice.
Now in his fifth season out of Arizona State University, Randall has settled into the strong safety position with the Browns after bouncing around the Green Bay Packers’ secondary during his first three years in the NFL.
During the season-opening loss to the Tennessee Titans on September 8, Randall registered four solo tackles and one pass defended.
Over his 16 games in two years with the Browns, Randall has registered 89 total tackles, including 76 solo stops and 13 assists, with 10 passes defended and four interceptions, which he returned for 59 total yards.
