CLEVELAND — Taking to social media on Tuesday night, Baker Mayfield posted a letter acknowledging his uncertain future with the Cleveland Browns.
And while Mayfield's post has elicited a variety of reactions from members of the Browns' fanbase, one of his former teammates appeared to make his feelings on the matter very clear.
Seventeen minutes after Mayfield's post, former Cleveland running back Duke Johnson Jr. tweeted a .gif of a cartoon trainwreck. Johnson's post was perceived by many to be a call back to Mayfield's comments about the running back's trade request in 2019, in which the then-second-year quarterback said: "You’re either on this train or you’re not, it’s moving. You can get out of the way or you can join us."
Mayfield's comments reportedly drew the ire of veteran members of the Browns' roster, who told the No. 1 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft that he should support his teammate.
Ultimately, Cleveland opted to trade Johnson to the Houston Texans, with the Miami (Fla.) product now a member of the Miami Dolphins. As for Mayfield, the 2018 Heisman Trophy winner's own time with the Browns could be coming to an end as Cleveland reportedly pursues a potential trade for Houston Texans three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson.
"I have given this franchise everything I have," Mayfield wrote in his social media post on Tuesday. "Whatever happens.. I just want to say thank you to the fans who truly embraced who I am and the mentality that aligned so well with this city's hard working people."
