CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns safety Grant Delpit was announced as the team’s 2021 Ed Block Courage Award recipient on Tuesday. The award is annually given to one member of each team that best exemplifies the qualities of Ed Block, the former head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts. The qualities include courage, compassion, commitment and helping in the community.
“Thank you to the Cleveland Browns organization, my teammates and the Browns athletic training staff for this great opportunity and for believing in me to help fight through this Achilles tear from last year,” said Delpit. “It was definitely a difficult test for me and I battled a lot, but my support system held it down to ultimately help me capture my goals. I also want to thank everyone who I worked with this past offseason to get me back and ready for this season.”
Delpit was voted the winner of the award by his teammates. So far this season, the 2020 second-round pick has played in 11 of the team’s 12 games after not playing a single snap during his rookie season due to a torn Achilles suffered during the team’s training camp. On the season, Delpit has totaled 30 tackles, one sack, an interception, three pass break ups and a forced fumble.
Delpit’s efforts in the community weren’t stopped last year due to his injury, as he was still able to engage in helping others. This year, the LSU product has hosted a special shopping event for Ohio Elite Seminoles Youth Football Program at a local Meijer that included providing each participant with a $150 gift card.
Delpit will be virtually recognized during the Providence House 26th Annual Deck the House Benefit Auction beginning at 6:30 on Tuesday night. More details on the benefit can be found here.
Running back Nick Chubb was the recipient of the award in 2020.
