Greedy Williams: 'I know one thing: the Browns are going to the Super Bowl this year'

It didn't take long for Greedy Williams to make his first bold proclamation after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns.

A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, who spent his college career at LSU, Greedy Williams admittedly doesn't know much about his future home.

There is, however, one notable exception.

"I know one thing: the Browns are going to the Super Bowl this year," Williams said shortly after being selected by Cleveland with the No. 46 pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Williams didn't back down from his bold proclamation either, making it at least one more time over the course of a 10-minute conference call with reporters. He also discussed the Browns' new cornerback tandem of himself and Denzel Ward, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2018.

The wildest part about Williams' prediction? It's not all that wild. As of Friday night, Cleveland possessed the fifth-best odds of winning next season's Super Bowl (+1200) and the third-best of any team in the AFC.

The biggest boost in the Browns' chances of ending their season in Miami next February came last month when they acquired 3-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in a trade with the New York Giants. The addition of Beckham to an offense that already included Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Antonio Callaway and David Njoku has made Cleveland one of the NFL's hottest teams this offseason.

So perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise that with his first pick of this year's draft -- the Browns traded their first-round selection to the Giants in the Beckham trade -- Cleveland general manager John Dorsey turned his attention toward his defense. In doing so, he selected one of the -- if not the -- top cornerbacks in the draft, a consensus All-American who has been praised for his coverage ability.

LSU defender Greedy Williams prepares to defend a pass against Arkansas during the second half of a game against the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday, November 10, 2018.

In 11 games at LSU last season, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback recorded 9 pass defenses and 2 interceptions.  And despite sliding to the second round, it's safe to say he's hardly short on confidence -- both when it comes to himself and his new team.

"John Dorsey's done a great job of getting the right guys in the right positions," Williams said. "I feel like this team will be the Super Bowl champs, this year."
