CLEVELAND — Sometimes the best offense is a good defense. On Sunday, Cleveland Browns safety Karl Joseph proved that -- and then some.
With the Browns' offense stagnant through the first quarter of its Week 3 matchup vs. the Washington Football Team, Cleveland found itself in danger of falling behind its opponent by two scores. Joseph, however, did his best to ensure that Washington couldn't extend its 7-3 lead, intercepting quarterback Dwayne Haskins and returning the ball 49 yards to the Washington 35-yard line.
Although Joseph fumbled upon being tackled, Cleveland was able to keep possession -- and actually advance the ball to Washington's 28-yard line -- thanks to a recovery from defensive back Tavierre Thomas.
Three plays later, the Browns were in the end zone for the first time all afternoon with running back Nick Chubb scoring on a darting16-yard run, giving Cleveland a 10-7 lead.
Chubb's touchdown marked his third of the season and came one week after he rushed for two touchdowns in the Browns' Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football. And while both he and Kareem Hunt initially struggled to gain ground against Washington and its monster defensive line, Chubb's 16-yard score was an encouraging sign for the Browns offense.
