CLEVELAND -- If there's anyone who can relate to Josh Rosen's apparent hesitance to be selected by the Cleveland Browns, it might be Myles Garrett.
After all, it was just a year ago the former Texas A&M star found himself projected as the top player in the NFL Draft. And Garrett himself even had expressed concerns about being selected by Cleveland -- although he later insisted he was just joking when he created a video begging the Dallas Cowboys to trade up for him.
In the end, however, the Browns selected Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, just as many had projected them to. And although the team is currently one loss away from completing a winless season, the rookie defensive end has a message for any prospects who may possess cold feet about coming to Cleveland in 2018.
"Don't be fearful, be grateful," said Garrett said following the Browns' 20-3 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, per The Associated Press. "No matter where you're picked. If you're part of the Browns, or you're part of Chicago, whoever you are, be grateful of the opportunity. There is no curse, there is no problem here. You got to be able to execute and finish games."
Some, of course, could question Garrett's assertion that there is "no problem" in Cleveland. In addition to their current impending winless season, the Browns are 1-30 over the course of the past two seasons and 4-48 dating back to the final five games of the 2014 campaign. Owner Jimmy Haslam fired VP of football operations Sashi Brown less than two years into the job and despite Haslam's insistence to the contrary, head coach Hue Jackson could be next.
Yet among -- and thanks in part to -- all the losing and dysfunction, the Browns have acquired a number of highly placed draft picks, including the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft.
Could their former selection's comments help sell their future pick -- be it Rosen or someone else -- on a future in Cleveland? That's the hope. And lately, hope is all the Browns have had to lean on.
