CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns will welcome a familiar face back to the team for the 2023-2024 season as QB Josh Dobbs has signed a one-year deal, according to his agent Mike McCartney.
Dobbs spent the majority of the 2022 season with the Browns as the backup to interim starter Jacoby Brissett before Deshaun Watson returned from his 11 game suspension. Dobbs was waived on November 28 to make room for Watson.
He did not appear in a regular season game for the Browns.
Dobbs was picked up by the Detroit Lions before ultimately finishing the season with the Tennessee Titans, recording the first two starts of his six year NFL career.
It is unclear at this point if the team will be in the market for a more proven backup to compliment Dobbs behind Watson. Dobbs has spent most of his career as a third-string option while with the Steelers.
Notable free agent quarterbacks with starting experience still remain available including:
- Carson Wentz
- Matt Ryan
- Teddy Bridgewater
- Joe Flacco
- Brian Hoyer
- Mason Rudolph
- Blane Gabbert
Financial details of the deal have yet to be released.
