The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday.
And given the Cleveland Browns' disappointing start to the 2019 season, perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise they're expected to be one of the league's most active teams.
Just ahead of Sunday's slate of Week 8 games -- in which the Browns hit the road to face the New England Patriots -- Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network published his breakdown of players who could be on the move between now and Tuesday. In the piece published on NFL.com, Cleveland's name wasn't hard to find, as Rapoport shared that the Browns are actively shopping nickel cornerback T.J. Carrie, who wis currently in his second season with the team.
"Veteran defensive backs with big contracts such as T.J. Carrie of the Browns, Reshad Jones of the Dolphins, Josh Norman of the Redskins and Janoris Jenkins of the Giants are among those being shopped," Rapoport wrote. "If they are dealt, it's unlikely it will be for much given the age and contract."
Signed as a free agent following the 2017 season, Carrie is currently in the second season of a 4-year, $31 million deal. In 6 games this season, the Ohio University product has tallied 27 tackles, 2 pass defenses and 1 interception.
Carrie, however, might not be the only Browns player on the move in the next few days as Rapoport also noted that Cleveland is open to dealing "some WR depth, but they'd only trade the back-end guys." While Rapoport didn't name names, one could surmise he is referring to Antonio Callaway, Rashard Higgins and/or Damion Ratley, as Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry would both seemingly be off-limits.
As for what the Browns might add in the coming days, Rapoport noted that Cleveland general manager John Dorsey has remained aggressive in pursuing an offensive tackle. In particular, Rapoport mentioned Philadelphia Eagles backup Halapoulivaati Vaitai while noting that the Browns have "been shut down" every time they've inquired about Washington Redskins disgruntled lineman Trent Williams.
On Sunday, Cleveland benched its starting offensive tackle, Greg Robinson, in favor of backup Justin McCray. At halftime, the Browns trail the Patriots 17-7.
