Report: Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt holding out of team activities in search of a new contract

Hunt participated in individual activities on Friday and Saturday but has held out of participating in team activities.

BEREA, Ohio — According to Senior NFL Insider Josina Anderson, Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt has sat out the last two days of team activities in search of a new contract from the team.

This isn't your box standard "hold out" though as Hunt has been showing up to practices over the past two days participating in individual drills. It's the team drills he refuses to participate in.

According to Anderson, Hunt's agent has informally told the team that Hunt prefers to stay with Cleveland but wants a new contract or to be traded to a team that will give him one.

Hunt signed a two-year contract extension in 2020 worth $13.25 million.

It's curious timing from Hunt's camp attempting to call the Brown's bluff on day 8 of training camp while the team is neck deep in the Deshaun Watson controversy.

Behind starter Nick Chubb is one of the deepest running back units in football with D'Earnest Johnson, Dometric Felton and rookie Jerome Ford Jr. who all offer a unique skillset to compliment Chubb who is coming off of a year in which he rushed for 1,259 yards on 5.5 yards per carry.

Hunt was only able to play in eight games last year due to calf and ankle injuries rushing for 386 yards and racking up 560 yards from scrimmage. He's only played in 16 games twice in his career (2021 with the Browns and 2017 as a rookie with the Chiefs).

As of now there hasn't been any official statement from Hunt's camp or the Browns organization on Hunt's request or his refusal to participate in team activities.
