CLEVELAND -- Former Cleveland Browns linebacker Mychal Kendricks has not yet played his last football.

Despite pleading guilty to insider trading charges last month, which comes with a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, Kendricks signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Kendricks, who used tips to acquire more than $1.2 million, has a sentencing hearing currently scheduled for January 24, which is four days after the AFC and NFC Championship games.

Kendricks was signed by the Browns in June, but on August 29, the day before the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field, his contract was terminated.

“Prior to signing Mychal, we were informed that there was a financial situation that he had been involved with in 2014,” Browns GM John Dorsey said in a statement when the team released Kendricks.

“We were told Mychal had fully cooperated with investigators as a victim. From what was communicated at that time and based on the numerous questions we asked and further due diligence on our part, including checking with the league office, there was no information discovered that conveyed otherwise.

“Recently, we were provided an update on the matter and the circumstances have changed. We are now dealing with a different set of facts and the additional information we’ve gathered has led us to the decision to release Mychal from our team. Due to the ongoing legal nature of this situation, we will have no further comments.”

Veteran defender Mychal Kendricks is excited to be a part of the Cleveland Browns' linebacker corps.

In 85 games over his six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, the 6-foot, 240-pound Kendricks registered 459 total tackles, including 343 solo stops and 116 assists, to go along with 14 quarterback sacks, 26 passes defended and three interceptions.

While having just one 100-tackle season to his credit and no more than four sacks in a single season during his time in Philadelphia, Kendricks helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl Championship back in February.
