CLEVELAND — On Sunday, the Cleveland Browns announced the firing of head coach Freddie Kitchens.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the changes in Cleveland might not stop there.
While John Dorsey currently remains the general manager of the Browns, it doesn't appear that will necessarily be the case for long. Per Schefter, Cleveland's next head coach -- whoever it might be -- "is expected to have input on whether" Dorsey remains the Browns' general manager in 2020.
Based on Schefter's report, it doesn't appear as though Dorsey will have as much say -- if any -- in hiring the Browns' next coach as he did in hiring Kitchens. And even if Dorsey does remain in Cleveland, it could result in a non-traditional power structure in which the head coach will carry more power than the general manager.
Schefter's report is the second in many days that calls into question Dorsey's position in Cleveland moving forward. On Sunday, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports stated that he believes that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam will "alter" the franchise's executive layer, with the dynamic between Dorsey and chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta likely to change.
The Browns hired DePodesta to his current position following the 2015 season. The analytics-minded former baseball general manager was a key figure in the two-year teardown engineered by former general manager Sashi Brown, which led to Dorsey's hiring toward the end of the 2017 campaign.
