CLEVELAND — A former NFL quarterback is lobbying to have the Cleveland Browns bring him in following Deshaun Watson’s season-ending shoulder injury.
During his podcast “RG3 and The Ones,” Robert Griffin III discussed why he should be the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback.
While discussing the Browns QB room of Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker, Griffin offered himself as a third option.
“I’m here to tell you they have a third option. And it’s your boy. The Browns should sign me as their starting quarterback and here’s why.”
Griffin, who is currently a college football and NFL analyst for ESPN, started off by talking about his knowledge of the game and how he is ready to showcase his skills
“At 33 years old, I understand the game better than I ever have in my entire career. I know how to slide and I know when to slide. And that was a huge issue in my eight years in the NFL, but I’ve learned from my mistakes and I’m ready to showcase that I can get it done.”
Additionally, Griffin discussed Watson's performance during the second half of last week's game against the Baltimore Ravens, indicating that he could "manage the game" as Watson did.
"Of those 14 passes, there weren't really any of them that you would say were $230 million worthy passes," Griffin said. "All they needed him to do was manage the game because them dogs they got over there on defense, starting with Myles Garrett."
Griffin, who spent the 2016 season with the Browns, believes his talent can bring the team to the Super Bowl.
“I can go out there and manage a game for the Cleveland Browns and help them go on the Super Bowl run that they want to go on."
Despite not playing in the NFL since 2020, Griffin says he can still run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash and throw a ball 80 yards.
"I train every week like an NFL football player so I can be ready for moments just like this."

Finally, Griffin spoke about how he could be a resource to help DTR.
"I can help DTR with his decision-making, when to make certain plays and truly to understand what he has to do as a quarterback with a defense like that on the other side of the football," said Griffin.
Griffin spent seven seasons in the NFL, including three years with the then Washington Redskins, a one-year stint with the Browns, followed by three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Griffin threw for 9,271 yards, 88 touchdowns and 30 interceptions during his NFL career.
