CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Following the emergence of Baker Mayfield and offseason acquisition of Odell Beckham Jr., the Cleveland Browns have been dubbed by many as "America's Team."
Apparently, CBS agrees.
On Tuesday, the television network held a luncheon to announce its NFL coverage for the 2019 season. And in doing so, it revealed that its top broadcasting team, featuring Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson, will be on the call when the Browns host the Tennessee Titans in their season opener on September 8.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
That CBS' "A-team" is on the call for the Browns in Week 1 is no small deal, given Romo's popularity as a color commentator. Following his retirement at the end of the 2016 season, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback has received near-unanimous praise for his ability to predict plays before they happen and explain to viewers what they had just seen.
Having established themselves as CBS' top team, Nantz, Romo and Wolfson were on the call for Super Bowl LIII between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams earlier this year.
That CBS would send its top team to Cleveland for the first week of the NFL season doesn't come as a surprise given the hype surrounding the Browns entering the 2019 campaign. After compiling a 7-8-1 record in 2018, Cleveland enters its new season favored to win the AFC North and tied for the fifth-best odds of winning Super Bowl LIV.
Between Mayfield, Beckham, Myles Garrett and Jarvis Landry, the Browns possess no shortage of star power on the field. And for at least one week, that will be true in the television broadcast booth as well with one of football's most popular broadcasting teams making its way to FirstEnergy Stadium.
