CLEVELAND — It's been 917 days since Colin Kaepernick last played in the NFL.
But some of the league's biggest stars clearly haven't forgotten about the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Kaepernick shared a video of himself working out alongside Odell Beckham Jr. In the one-minute long video, Kaepernick can be seen throwing passes to the 3-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, who is set to make his Cleveland Browns debut on Sunday.
Selected by the 49ers in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Kaepernick emerged as one of the league's hottest young quarterbacks in 2012, leading San Francisco all the way to the Super Bowl, where it lost to the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 34-31.
Although his on-field success fluctuated over the ensuing years, he still started in 11 of the 49ers' 16 games in 2016, completing 59.2 percent of his passes for 2,241 yards and 16 touchdowns in addition to rushing for 468 yards and 2 scores. That season, however, would prove to be his last -- or at least most recent -- in the NFL, as his decision to kneel during the playing of the National Anthem in an effort to bring awareness to the mistreatment of minorities made him a lightning rod in the league.
In 2017, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL, accusing the league's owners of collusion as he remained unsigned. In February of this year, he reached a confidential settlement with the NFL, which resulted in him dropping his grievance.
Although Beckham and Kaepernick have never been teammates, the two have maintained a close relationship and have even been featured together in Nike ads. After spending the first five years of his career with the New York Giants, Beckham will make his debut with the Browns on Sunday when Cleveland hosts the Tenessee Titans at 1 p.m.
