BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry has made plenty of highlight-reel catches in his first training camp with the team, and ended the final day of practices in front of the fans with another memorable moment.

In one of the final drills of practice, Landry got behind the coverage of defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun and pulled in a one-handed catch on a throw from starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Landry maintained possession all the way through the play, which went for a 20-yard gain, and exuberantly flipped the ball into the stands in celebration.

Landry’s highlight-reel play drew a standing ovation from the fans in attendance, as well as several cheers from teammates and coaches alike.

Following the catch, Browns coach Hue Jackson walked over to Landry, and the two shared a high-five, as well as some smiles.

“Absolutely, coaches, players, fans and everybody,” Jackson said of Landry energizing others with his highlight-reel plays.

“He does things almost every day that make us go ‘wow.’ Those are the plays we are going to have to make in key moments this year as we go. He is going to be one of those guys that has to make those plays.”

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry catches a down-the-field pass in a drill during Tuesday's practice at the team's Berea training facility.

Over his four-year career with the Miami Dolphins, Landry turned 400 catches into 4,038 yards and 22 touchdowns. He averaged 10.1 yards per catch and 63.1 yards per game to go along with 38 receptions of at least 20 yards, seven 40-yard plays and 220 first downs.

The 5-foot-11, 208-pound Landry has two 110-catch seasons (2015, 2017) and two 1,100-yard years (2015, 2016) on his resume.

In 2015, Landry set a then-career high with 110 catches, which he turned into 1,157 yards and four touchdowns and averaged a personal-best 72.3 yards per game. He followed that up with a 94-catch, 1,136-yard, four-touchdown showing in 2016.

Last season, the Metairie, Louisiana native and Louisiana State product caught a career-high 112 passes for 987 yards and a personal-best nine touchdown receptions.

“I love Jarvis and what he brings to this team,” offensive coordinator Todd Haley said prior to Wednesday’s practice. “He's going to be at the forefront of changing this culture. There's no doubt about it.

“Jarvis is a guy that wants to win, and what more could you ask from a guy as that strong, strong desire to have success, win games because really, for us, the fun is in the winning. It's too much work if you go out there and don't get to experience the fun of winning. Jarvis is the type of guy that will do anything necessary to give us the best chance to get that done.”

APPRECIATING THE FANS

The Browns held their 15th and final open practice of training camp at the team’s Berea facility Wednesday, and on one of the most humid days of the summer, the players and coaches were grateful for the support the fans gave them to get through the on-field session.

“I can never say enough about our fans,” Jackson said. “Our fans are outstanding -- some of the best fans in the world. They come out and support the team. Hopefully, our team has given back to them, but nothing will change until we start winning football games.

“I think that we get it. We are thankful that they come out every day and support us. They kind of pushed us through today. Today was a grind day for our players. I could feel it. They were able to get through because the fans are always out there screaming and cheering for them.”

Veteran quarterback Drew Stanton is playing an important role within the Cleveland Browns' quarterback room.

STANTON PLAYS CRITICAL ROLE

The Browns traded for quarterback Tyrod Taylor in March and drafted Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft in April, but overhauling the position room would not have been complete without veteran Drew Stanton.

Should Taylor be unable to play at any time and Mayfield not be ready, Stanton could be the man who gets the call.

“Right now, Drew still has that experience, and we will see how that all unfolds as we go,” Jackson said.

“I have not made that choice just yet, but I think his veteran presence says a lot. He has played in a lot of games against a lot of teams that we are going to start off against and play against, so I think that is important to definitely consider.”
