CLEVELAND -- Especially for teams with lofty expectations, NFL preseason games are typically uneventful affairs.
Apparently Mack Wilson didn't get the memo.
After recording a pick-6 interception in the second quarter of his team's exhibition matchup with the Washington Redskins, the Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker added another interception to his stat line -- this one coming in the fourth quarter of the contest.
Whereas Wilson's first interception came off of his first-round pick and Ohio State product Dwayne Haskins, his second came when he stepped in front of a pass thrown by Josh Woodrum 38 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Although Cleveland didn't draft Wilson until the fifth round, there were signs during his college career at Alabama that he was capable of making such game-altering plays. Over the course of his final two seasons with the Crimson Tide, the former 5-star product tallied 6 interceptions, one of which he returned for a score.
Since being drafted earlier this year, the 21-year-old Wilson appears to have taken his playmaking to the next level. In addition to his two interceptions vs. Washington in his preseason debut, the 2018 second-team All-SEC selection has made a habit of stepping in front of passes in practice on a nearly daily basis.
Currently listed as Christian Kirksey's backup at WILL linebacker, it may be difficult for the Browns to keep Wilson off the field this fall should his strong preseason continue.
