The Cleveland Browns placed a lot of faith in rookie running back Nick Chubb when they dealt veteran rusher Carlos Hyde to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft after Friday’s practice, and he took that belief into the end zone early in the fourth quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium Sunday.
Chubb capped off a seven-play, 75-yard drive that took more than three minutes off the clock with a one-yard touchdown run that drew the Browns to within a score of the Buccaneers, 23-16, with 12:17 to play in the fourth quarter in Tampa, Florida.
One play after wide receiver Antonio Callaway drew a pass-interference penalty in the end zone, which moved the ball to the Tampa Bay one-yard line, Chubb took a handoff from quarterback Baker Mayfield, followed blocks on the right side of the offensive line and plowed into the end zone for his third score of the season.
Chubb accounted for 62 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries through three-plus quarters of work against the Buccaneers.
