CLEVELAND — With Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams, Morgan Burnett and Damarious Randall each sidelined, the Cleveland Browns entered their Sunday Night Football matchup vs. the Los Angeles Rams without their entire starting secondary.

Thus far, however, the team's understudies have appeared to be up to the task.

That much seemed clear in the third quarter of the contest, when reserve cornerback T.J. Carrie completed a diving interception of Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff. Carrie's pick came after a Baker Mayfield touchdown throw to tight end Demetrius Harris and set the Browns up in Rams territory while already laying claim to a 13-10 lead.

Carrie's pick was the second turnover forced by the Cleveland defense on the night after Myles Garrett recorded a strip-sack on Goff recovered by Joe Schobert to set up an Austin Seibert field goal prior to halftime.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, the Browns offense was unable to take advantage of its advantageous field position. After a miscommunication on a run-pass option, a 3-yard Nick Chubb run and a Mayfield incompletion intended for Jarvis Landry, Cleveland was forced to punt the ball with 2:09 remaining in the third quarter.

After a 21-yard Jamie Gillan punt, the Rams offense took possession at its own 28-yard line and entered the fourth quarter having advanced the ball all the way to the Browns' 20-yard line.
