Former Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa named NFL Rookie of the Year

The 49er defensive end had nine sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one interception.

MIAMI — Former Ohio State Buckeye and current San Francisco 49er Nick Bosa has been named the 2019 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year.

The league made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

Bosa was selected No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft by the 49ers.

In his rookie year, Bosa set a franchise record with 16 tackles for loss.

On the season, Bosa had 47 total tackles, nine sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one interception.

Bosa beat out Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown, Raiders running back Josh Jacobs, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and Eagles running back Myles Sanders.

He was also selected to the 2020 Pro Bowl.

This weekend, Bosa and the 49ers will be playing in Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs.
