CLEVELAND — Ten seasons. 233 PGA events. 733 rounds. Northeast Ohio's Jason Kokrak waited a long time for his first career win on the PGA Tour.
It was all worth it.
Kokrak, 35, won the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas this past weekend finishing 20-under par for the tournament, shooting an 8-under 64 in the final round to hold off Xander Schauffele who finished 18-under.
Kokrak, who attended JFK High School in Warren, Ohio, and currently calls Hudson, Ohio home, took home $1.8 million for the win in one of the biggest tournaments before next month's Masters Tournament in Augusta.
The CJ Cup had been moved from South Korea to Las Vegas due to the COVID-19 pandemic and featured 37 of the top 50 golfers in the world including Schauffele, Bubba Watson, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy.
Kokrak's victory on Sunday earned him a spot in The Masters this year and in April of 2021.
