CLEVELAND — An Olympic gold medalist and Olmsted Falls native is gracing the cover of the January 2022 issue of Cleveland Magazine.
Pole vaulting star Katie Nageotte is being honor among the magazine's annual 30 "Most Interesting People" in Cleveland.
The 30-year-old Lakewood resident talks with Cleveland Magazine editor Henry Palattella for the feature, reliving the moments that led up to her triumph in August at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, and what it was like clearing the bar that won her a gold medal in the women's pole vault final.
Ever the humble athlete, Nageotte commented on an image of the cover shared on Cleveland Magazine's Instagram page, writing: "Still can’t believe I’m on the cover thank you so much!!!!"
On the cover, Nageotte is photographed smiling, standing in a power pose with her gold medal draped around her neck.
The world-class athlete has her hair pulled back in what looks to be french-braided pigtails, styled by hair and makeup artist Riley Gable of Makeup by Riley.
As for her wardrobe, Nageotte is appropriately dressed in one version of her Team USA pole vaulting uniform. It's not the same uniform she wore for her medaling moment, though. This one is blue on top with black bottoms and seems more seasonally appropriate for a December in Northeast Ohio, with cap sleeves instead of the red tank top style that carried her to victory this summer. Her look is finalized with understated gold hoop earrings and a matching watch on her left wrist.
To create her cover look, she had the help of Cleveland Magazine cover art director Erin Stinard and on-set art director Jessa Moser. Cleveland-based portrait photographer Angelo Merendino snapped the final image, assisted by Megan Fisher.
Nageotte has certainly had an interesting year, full of professional and personal milestones, including getting engaged to her long-time love Hugo Moon in November.
