EUGENE, Ore. — Another athlete with Northeast Ohio ties is headed to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
On Sunday night, Ashland University graduate Trevor Bassitt qualified for his first Olympic games after finishing third in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 47.82 seconds.
During his time at Ashland University, the now 26-year-old was a 10-time NCAA Division II national champion and 21-time Division II All-American.
The Bluffton native assisted in leading the Ashland Eagles men's track and field team to three NCAA Divison II Championships in 2019 (indoor and outdoor) and 2021 (indoor).
Bassitt was not the only Ashland University graduate to qualify for the Olympics, as Katie Moon secured her spot in pole vaulting on Sunday night. Moon, a reigning Olympic champion, earned a spot on Team USA after taking second place in the pole vault with a mark of 4.73 meters.
