EUGENE, Ore. — Corey Crawford has been waiting for this moment for years.
The son of 3News anchor Jay Crawford, Corey is set to compete this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon. He'll look to represent America as a long jumper next month in Tokyo.
Corey is currently ranked third in the U.S. in the long jump and had the seventh-longest jump in the world this year.
His trials will begin on Friday and then continue on Sunday if he is one of the top 12. Jay and his wife Tracey are in Oregon to support their son this weekend.
The Olympics were canceled in 2020 after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the pandemic may still not be fully under control, the International Olympic Committee has deemed it safe enough to move forward with the games in Japan this summer.
“It's 2021, it's definitely going down! So, it’s definitely been a weird ride, but it’s definitely been different in a sense,” Corey recently told 3News.
It's been a long road for both parents and son. Jay and Corey reflected on what the culmination of this journey means to them. You can watch their conversation in the player above or below.
