TOKYO, Japan — The Tokyo Olympics have come to an end for Clayton Murphy. The University of Akron graduate finished the men's 800m finals in last place with a time of 1:46.53.
Here were the top three in the race, which took place early Wednesday morning EST:
- Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir of Kenya won gold with a time of 1:45.06
- Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich of Kenya claimed silver with a time of 1:45.23
- Patryk Dobek of Poland took bronze with a time of 1:45.39
Murphy, a 26-year-old native of New Paris, Ohio, previously advanced to the finals after finishing second during the semifinals early Sunday morning (EST). Murphy’s run in that event was clocked at 1:44.18. His second-place finish came to Peter Bol of Australia, who ran with a time of 1:44.11.
Murphy, who lives in Northeast Ohio and trains at Beachwood High School, previously won a bronze medal in the same event at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
He’s married to 2016 Olympic teammate Ariana Washington, according to Team USA.
