PARIS, France — Sha'Carri Richardson could add another medal to her Olympic debut in Paris.
The star sprinter is part of Team USA's lineup for the race in the women's 4x100m relay on Friday. It is the last event that slated to include Richardson, who already won a silver medal in the women's 100-meter dash.
During the qualifying round on Thursday, Richardson bailed the U.S. women's team out of near collapse in the relay.
In the race, Richardson was about three steps behind after receiving the baton from Gabby Thomas, who earlier nearly misconnected on her exchange with Twanisha Terry.
That put Richardson in a hole against Rebekka Haase, but the 100-meter silver medalist was looking back at Haase by the finish. The U.S. won in 41.94 seconds, .19 ahead of the Germans.
No team came into the qualifying race with a more loaded lineup that the U.S. women, but it all nearly cratered when Thomas took off early on the third leg, then had to slow down to receive the baton from Terry.
When is the women's 4x100m relay final?
The 4x100-meter relay final is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Richardson will likely be in the lineup, but the U.S. doesn't officially confirm who is going to run until shortly before the race.
How did Sha'Carri Richardson do in the 100-meter dash?
Richardson's only shot at an individual Olympic medal was the 100-meter dash since she failed to earn a spot in the women's 200-meter race during the track trials earlier this summer.
The 24-year-old was beat by Julien Alfred, who gave Saint Lucia its first-ever Olympic medal with her victory. Alfred got off to a fantastic start, then powered through the rain and beat Richardson by .15 seconds — about three body lengths.
It was the biggest margin in the women’s Olympic 100 since 2008.
