Ashland University graduate and Ohio native Trevor Bassitt eliminated in semifinals of 400-meter hurdles at 2024 Paris Olympics

PARIS, France — Ohio runner Trevor Bassitt, a graduate of Ashland University, has been eliminated after competing in track and field at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris as a member of Team USA.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bassitt came up short in the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles after finishing fourth in Heat A with a time of 48.29. 

During the repechage round on Tuesday, Bassitt qualified for the semifinals after taking first place with a time of 48.64. On Monday morning, Bassitt made his Olympic debut, finishing fifth in the second heat of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.38 seconds.

This year's Summer Games marked Bassitt's first trip to compete in the Olympics. 

Bassitt was not the only Ashland University grad competing for Team USA at the Summer Games. Ashland University graduate and reigning pole vaulting gold medalist Katie Moon is also competing at the Olympics to defend her gold medal.

    • Finished in first place with a time of 48.64
