COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is getting ready for the start of the state's seven-day deer gun hunting season on Monday.

Gun hunters of all ages can participate in the seven-day gun season which begins Monday, Nov. 27 and runs until Sunday, Dec. 3. A bonus weekend of gun hunting will occur Dec. 16-17. Muzzleloader season will be on Jan. 6-9, 2024, while the archery season runs through Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024.

The ODNR reminds hunters that regardless of the implement used, you are required to wear hunter orange during the gun seasons. You can find complete details in the 2023-24 hunting and trapping regulations.

Successful deer hunters can check their game using the HuntFish OH mobile app, available for free in the Android and Apple app stores. Users can also explore public hunting areas, purchase hunting licenses or deer permits, see county bag limits, and so much more.

Beyond the app, hunters can check game by visiting ohiogamecheck.com, calling 1-877-TAG-IT-OH (1-877-824-4864), visiting a license sales agent, or calling 1-866-703-1298 (landowner operator-assisted; fees apply).

Earlier this month, Ohio hunters age 17 and under harvested 10,039 white-tailed deer during the two-day youth season on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18-19. It was the second-highest harvest total for youth hunters on record. Tuscarawas was the Ohio county that had the higest number of deer taken during the two-day period with 391. Richland County ranked No. 10 in the state with 205.
