CLEVELAND -- As he arrived in town to promote his upcoming "Snoopsical," Redemption of a Dogg, perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise that Snoop Dogg had no issue acclimating to Cleveland.
"The Dawg Pound receives the Dogg pretty well," Snoop Dogg said during an interview in the WKYC studios on Wednesday morning.
But while the rap legend's name might make him best suited to be a fan of the Cleveland Browns, the 46-year-old -- birth name: Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. -- is a notorious Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In an interview with Rich Eisen in 2015, Snoop said that his days of rooting for the Black and Gold date back to the Super Bowl-winning teams of the 1970s.
Nevertheless, the 17-time Grammy Award-nominated artist made it clear on Wednesday that he has plenty of love for the Browns -- in particular, two of the team's star players.
"I seen my main man Jarvis Landry last night. I told him to give me a jersey because I like him. I like Baker Mayfield," Snoop said. "I like what y'all got going on over here. Y'all got a couple of wins this year, right?"
Indeed. Two, to be exact -- as well as a tie against Snoop's beloved Steelers.
And while his rooting interests may lie elsewhere in the AFC North, the author of the upcoming cookbook, "From Crook to Cook" also admitted he wouldn't mind getting his hands on one of the Bud Light 'Victory Fridges' that opened when the Browns beat the New York Jets last month for their first win since the 2016 season.
"Shout out to the Browns man for coming up out of that slump," he said. "Y'all got any more of that free beer? Because I heard you were giving beer away when they won that game. So let me get a case to go."
In addition to his allegiance to the Steelers, the Long Beach native is one of the Los Angeles Lakers' most public fans. So much so that when LeBron James announced his intentions to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and sign with the Lakers this past summer, Snoop tweeted "Welcome home" -- a post that drew the ire of many in Northeast Ohio, including WKYC's own Russ Mitchell.
Asked on Wednesday about his reaction to James leaving the Cavs, "The Doggfather" insisted Cleveland would be just fine. After all, so long as Snoop Dogg's around, the home of the Dawg Pound won't be lacking in star power.
"I be here. Y'all have me and we've got LeBron," Snoop said. "I'm here to fill in for LeBron not being here. "Witness Snoop Dogg takeover Cleveland."
