VALLEY VIEW, Ohio — Stipe Miocic returned to Northeast Ohio Sunday after reclaiming his heavyweight title over Daniel Cormier at UFC 241 in Anaheim.
He'll also return to work soon, according to his employer.
The Valley View Fire Department posted a congratulatory message to Miocic on Facebook and added, "Rest up Stipe. You're on shift next week."
Miocic's rematch with Cormier ended in a fourth-round technical knockout Saturday night, despite Miocic's early struggles to find his range. In the fourth round, Miocic zeroed in on Cormier's ribs, taking body shots until he found a window of opportunity to rock Cormier with a shot on the chin, sending Cormier staggering backward.
“I remember him every time I threw a punch, he would put his arms up,” Miocic told WKYC in an exclusive interview after the fight. “He’s got a bigger belly, and it was just a matter of time. I just had to do it, and one time, he tried to angle away, and I actually caught him right in the sternum, right in the solar plexus. That’s when I hurt him real good.”
