CLEVELAND — This past year, with families working from home and juggling to keep the balance, Dads took on more household chores than ever before. And researchers are finding that gender roles assigned to housework are breaking down at a faster rate. How fatherhood is changing from generations past is just one topic Maureen Kyle tackled in this week's "Mom Squad Pod" with 3News Meteorologist and father of three, Matt Wintz.
“I don't enjoy doing laundry and I can't imagine any dads are honest about that and say, 'this isn't for me.' But that's an internal struggle for me because I think media and movies portray dads that's supposed to be the breadmaker, that's supposed to be the powerful one that doesn't have to clean or change a diaper or anything like that. And I feel like the media is still kind of stuck on that and they're not portraying the role of most dads today, which are more caretaker than they used to be,” says Wintz.
The generations are changing. According to researchers, 97% of “Millennial” dads change diapers. That is opposed to 1982, when the study found 40% of dads said they had never changed a diaper.
Maureen and Matt talk all things Dad, share memories about their own fathers and talk about the biggest “Dad” fail that everyone can relate to. You can check out the podcast on any platform where you listen to podcasts, and at the links and in the player below.
