"It was to inspire them to get involved with aviation related career fields and just get them out in a plane, out in a simulator, flying some drones, having a good time," said Mackanzie Kramer a member of the Women in Aviation Club at Kent State University.
Activities included experiments about wind drag, finding location on a flight map and even doing a preflight check in a real airplane.
"I like to learn about airplanes," said 5th grader Isabelle Bower. "They let us touch things and like see how it works."
"I think until you actually do something related to the field, you don't really know that you want to do it. And I feel like a lot of girls, after sitting in the plane, after doing all that stuff, they were really excited," Kramer said.
One of the highpoints? Time in the large flight simulator to fly around the skies of Northeast Ohio. Sarah Scott and her sister Sophia are big fans of aviation. In fact, Sarah came dresses in her own flight suit.
"I had a good time, but I was a little scared to get out because it felt like I was in the air, but I wasn't,” said Sarah Scott.
"It was a good experience because when you're on an actual airplane, you don't really get to see because it's just a small window. But when you're actually like in the cockpit, it's a great experience," Sophia Scott said.
The girls, ages eight to 18 are now able to see a wide range of possibilities the field can offer. They’ve already charted a path to explore aviation, confident the sky is the place for them.
"When you're in a plane, you're up in the air so it's a great view," said Sophia Scott.
