NORTHFIELD, Ohio — During a week in June, over a hundred students attended Camp Invention at Lee Eaton Elementary in Northfield, Ohio. This is Debbie McNellie’s third year as camp’s director. She previously taught at the camp and her children attended. So 3News asked her, what is Camp Invention?
“Camp Invention is a national program, but it's based in Canton, Ohio, and it's put on by the National Inventors Hall of Fame,” said McNellie. “It's a STEM camp for kids entering kindergarten through sixth grade.”
“They come into hands-on activities where they're inventing things, they're learning about inventors. Some are creating games. They're making a box where they're discovering different kinds of light and ways to illuminate their box,” continued McNellie.
“It's so multi-sensory. They're doing things. They're up and moving, a lot of critical thinking skills, a lot of creativity. These kids go home so excited about what they've done,” said McNellie. “I will continue to do camp invention as long as I am a teacher in Nordonia, it's one of my favorite weeks of the year.”
