HELENA, Montana - Forecasters are warning that gusty winds and low humidity could cause a fire near the eastern entrance to Glacier National Park in Montana to spread quickly.

The fire doubled in size yesterday, causing officials to evacuate homes along St. Mary Lake. Visitors have been fleeing hotels and campgrounds nearby.

Additional firefighters, helicopters and fire engines were arriving as the blaze spread, though a park spokeswoman says crews have been hampered by wind and extreme fire behavior.

To the west, a fast-moving wildfire covers more than 9 square miles of countryside near Northern California's Lake Berryessa. The fire is 5 percent contained and is threatening some 200 homes and rural ranches. Two communities and two campgrounds are under evacuation orders. There's no word of any injuries or damage.
