AVON, Ohio — One person is dead and two more are injured after a chase on I-90 led to a crash in Avon.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers initiated a traffic stop with a reckless driver on Interstate 90 just after 7:15 a.m. The driver did not stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The reckless driver caused a fatal crash after it exited the highway and fled northbound on state Route 611.
Troopers say a red 2020 Dodge Charger was traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph as it was going westbound on I-90 near Clague Road in Rocky River. The Charger fled the attempted traffic stop and a pursuit ensued.
The Charger went at speeds in excess of 130 mph, and exited at state Route 611 in Avon. The fleeing vehicle then struck a Ford F-150 head-on at the intersection of Chester Road.
A red 2010 Toyota Corolla was also damaged in the crash.
The driver of the Charger was identified as Charles Pierre-Louis Jr., 23, Lorain, and pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the fleeing vehicle was identified as 16-year-old Brian Reyes of Lorain. Reyes was transported by EMS to UH St. John Medical Center for serious injuries and later taken by Metro Life Flight to University Hospitals Main Campus.
The driver of the F-150 was identified as 23-year-old Brett T. Addington of Elyria. Addington was transported to UH Elyria Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Corolla was identified as 23-year-old Joselito C. Lugo of Lorain. He was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
