CLEVELAND — The city of Cleveland announced that a stretch of Chester Avenue will be closed Saturday for resurfacing work.

Chester Avenue will be fully closed between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Stokes Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the city said. The closure is meant to accommodate work as part of the city's Circle Square Improvement Project.

The city issued the following detours as part of the project:

  • At the intersection of Chester Avenue and East 105th Street, eastbound traffic heading to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will turn right and south onto East 105th Street to Euclid Boulevard. At Euclid Boulevard traffic will turn left and east until intersecting with Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

  • At the intersection of Chester Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, southbound traffic heading to Liberty Boulevard will be maintained by law enforcement officers.

The city said the detours are in effect only for this Saturday, Oct. 5.

According to city officials, the road work includes resurfacing Chester Avenue at the Stokes Boulevard intersection and at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Crews will also resurface about 300 feet east of Stokes Boulevard and reconstruct Reserve Court. Crews will also install 400 feet of new water main and resurface Stokes Boulevard.

The city said work will include "milling and resurfacing of existing asphalt and replacement of ADA compliant ramps, concrete curbs and walks as needed, and new pavement markings and signage."

The city said the construction zones and advanced warning signs will be in place to keep the public informed of the work and any changes in traffic patterns.
