Heavy traffic delays due to Cleveland curfew road closures

The city's curfew has been extended through 8 p.m. Tuesday.

CLEVELAND — Drivers on roadways like I-90 and I-77 approaching downtown Cleveland were experiencing bumper-to-bumper delays Monday morning as downtown roadways are closed for the city's curfew.

Entry to the city's curfew zone is off limits after Saturday's "violence and unrest." As a result, multiple city roadways -- and all highway entrances to downtown Cleveland -- are currently closed.

The city's curfew, which was supposed to be lifted at 8 a.m. Monday, has now been extended through 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. That means the same roadways will be closed for Tuesday morning's commute, too.

The city warns that anyone violating the curfew is subject to arrest. 

"The curfew applies to both vehicles and foot traffic," Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said during the weekend while encouraging everybody to stay at home.

The initial curfew was activated at 8 p.m. Saturday night through 8 a.m. Sunday before its extension.
