Do you often travel along the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway?
If so, you may be in need of a new route. As of June 3, the highway's West 45th exit is closed.
The closure will allow for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District to continue construction of the Westerly Storage Tunnel.
The project, which began back in May 2018, will capture 300 million gallon of combined sewage annually, preventing flows from entering the Cuyahoga River.
The two-mile long, $135 million tunnel runs beneath Tremont, Ohio City and Detroit-Shoreway neighborhoods.
The road will remain closed for 150 days, approximately five months.
Drivers along the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway accessing Detroit Ave. and other neighboring streets should use either the W. 73rd St. or W. 25th St. exit ramps.
The tunnel's construction is part of Project Clean Lake, the Sewer District’s plan to reduce combined sewer overflow from 4.5 billion gallons to 500 million gallons by 2036.$
