2 die, 3 seriously hurt in early morning crash on Ohio Turnpike in Lorain County

The Ohio State Highway Patrol identifies the victims as residents of Maryland.

LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — Two people were killed and three others seriously hurt in a crash early Friday morning on the Ohio Turnpike in Lorain County.

Authorities say it happened around 6:15 a.m. as out-of-state travelers from Maryland were heading westbound on the Ohio Turnpike in a 2016 Nissan Murano, which traveled off the right side of the roadway near mile post 137.

The vehicle went up an embankment “before vaulting down and striking a wooded area and overturning,” according to the Milan Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The victims are listed as follows:

  • Dacia R, Clayborn, 22, of Edgewood, Maryland: Sustained fatal injuries and was transported from the scene by the Lorain County Coroner.
  • Lashell Silver, 42, of Edgewood, Maryland: Sustained fatal injuries and was transported from the scene by the Lorain County Coroner.
  • Patrice A. Morris, 29, of District Heights, Maryland (identified as the driver): Sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by Lifecare EMS to Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital. Subsequently airlifted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
  • Monay Gaines, 19, of Edgewood, Maryland: Sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by Lifecare EMS to Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital. Subsequently transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
  • Unidentified juvenile: Sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by Lifecare EMS to Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital. Subsequently transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

The crash remains under investigation.
