ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday night in Hanover Township in Ashland County.
Troopers were called to state Route 97 near Ohio Department of Natural Resources Mohican Road 51. When troopers arrived they found a GMC Terrain and BMW Motorcycle had crashed.
Troopers say the Terrain was eastbound on State Route 97 around 4:30 p.m. when it went left of center and struck a westbound BMW motorcycle head on. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected at impact.
The motorcycle driver, 69-year-old Randall L. Beecham of Bellville, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the GMC Terrain, Thir Lal Uprety, 30, of Akron, was transported to UH Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland. Troopers say he suffered non-life threatening injuries.
State Route 97 was closed for about three and a half hours as troopers investigated the crash.
Loudenville Fire and EMS, Ashland County Ohio Department of Natural Resources officers, Ashland County Sheriff's deputies and crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the crash scene.
