CLEVELAND — There looks to be both good news and bad news for motorists across Northeast Ohio.
The good news is that according to the AAA, the national average for the cost of a gallon of gas has dipped three cents in the past week to $3.76. Although Northeast Ohio saw a seven-cent increase during the same seven day period, the average locally is still under the national cost at $3.68 per gallon.

The bad news is that we may soon see another spike in prices.
Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis, tweeted out a couple of disturbing trends on Monday. "Great Lakes could see a #gasprice hike soon, as spot prices up nearly 50c/gal from Oct 18," De Haan tweeted just before 2 p.m. He noted that "spot prices" are the major influence to where retail gas prices go.
About 15 minutes later, De Haan added, "ALERT: #GasPrices appear to be rising to $3.89/gal today in #Ohio."
As of Monday evening, here are some of the AAA's average prices for unleaded self-serve gas in Northeast Ohio:
- Cleveland - $3.706
- Elyria - $3.672
- Lorain - $3.615
- Massillon - $3.654
- Parma - $3.631
- Solon - $3.699
Ohio's statewide average, according to AAA, is $3.658.
The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Northeast Ohio one year ago today was $3.167.
